Seminar Topic: Political Consolidation and Democratisation of Former Yugoslav Republics

Presenter: Miro Hacek is Full Professor and Head of the Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Social Sciences in the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia. From 2007 to 2011 he was head of the Department of Policy Analysis and Public Administration at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana. From 1999 to 2009 he was General Secretary of the Slovenian Political Science Association, while in May 2009 he was elected President of the Association and in June 2011 was elected Vice President of the Association. In October 2012 he was elected the Vice-President of Central European Political Science Association (CEPSA). He was a visiting lecturer at the following universities; Hong Kong Baptist University (January 2005, January 2007), South Dakota State University (September 2009, April 2010) and at Hughes Hall in Cambridge (July 2001). He has published many scientific articles, papers and books in the Slovenian and English languages.

The seminar will be on the political consolidation and democratisation of former Yugoslav Republics and democratisation and transition processes in the former six Yugoslav Republics in the period after 1990. The seminar will also examine the reasons why Yugoslavia is the most special socialist system after the 2nd World War.
