Second Annual Scramble for Africa Conference and Expo 2012

May 25th is the annual commemoration of the 1963 founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), represented since 2002 by the African Union (AU). This year, which is the 10th anniversary of the African Union, will be marked by the African Union Diaspora Summit hosted by the AU in conjunction with South Africa.

In commemoration of this day, the Africa Institute of South Africa (AISA), Institute for Economic Research on Innovation (IERI), Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT), Statistics South Africa, Department of Arts and Culture (DAC), Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilisation CBAAC, Thabo Mbeki Leadership Institute (TMALI, Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), City of Tshwane (CoT), National Research Foundation (NRF) and DITSONG Museums of South Africa are hosting a two day Scramble for Africa conference which is a side event of the summit.

Following on the first conference in 2011, the theme for 2012 is 'The African Union after a Decade: Putting African Unity First Means Putting Humanity First'.
